From a trip to the south of Algeria in December 1981 Georges Guinot brings back sketches from life directly on his sketch books. His interest turns towards the Hoggar mountains, the women and the warrior-dancers in Djanet. People and landscape appear for the first time in his painting and the break with abstraction is realised for good.

Those sketches drawn on the fly formed the basis for fifty canvases to come. (35 oil paintings of large and medium sizes and 15 on small wood.).
